Episode 159: Blind Taste Test II – Double Blind

Since doing our unintentional experiment of blindly trying out new bands (well, at least new to us) worked so well last week, we decided to give it another go this week.  As you may have noticed from the sidebar, our results were a bit more varied.  Why?  Well, get listening and you will find out soon enough.

  1. Orange Goblin is a band I can recognize is good, and I can certainly see how the new album Back From The Abyss would get a rating of a 4. But I really have no desire to buy it. I guess it boils down to the fact that it doesn’t seem to stand out in a crowded field of new releases in October and November. If the album had come out in January or February, there might have been a better chance of me buying it. But right now there’s too many things coming out that I think will be better.

I guess I enjoyed Kataklysm more because I did not know what to expect, so they exceeded my expectations. The sound wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad to me. The crowd was weird. I think a part of it was that it just wasn’t busy enough. Gramercy Theater isn’t a small venue, but it isn’t huge either. I’d say the place was just over half full. That leaves tons of room for the pit. But no one was in the pit. And you said it was only partially your fault as to why we missed the first 3 bands. The other part was my fault. If I wasn’t so good at Ms. Pac Man we’d have been there 30 minutes earlier.
