Episode 278: Cyborg Octopus, Khonsu, Colosso 2016 Album Reviews

The Last Last Year Show

I promise this will be the last new 2017 episode without 2017 releases.  We have some stuff lined up the next two weeks that will catch us up a bit.  For now, though, we have a few more we found from 2016 that we think you’ll enjoy.

  1. So I realize I named at least 50 bands in all my various lists that I commented on in episode 271, but Cyborg Octopus was one of them. Cyborg Octopus made number 10 on my list of the top 10 albums of 2016 that you (The Sideshow Podcast) didn’t listen to. I’m a little surprised that you guys liked it so much because of the influences you noted of Between The Buried And Me and Dream Theater. You guys didn’t exactly rave about any recent offerings from BTBAM and have skipped all the Dream Theater albums.

    1. You did name a lot of bands. And arguably out more work into your lists than we did. Lol. We did make side notes of some of those bands, especially from the faves of yours we didn’t listen to.

While BTBAM and Dream Theater are easy names, there’s a long list of other bands we can site for comparison or influence (I honestly don’t remember what other bands we said in the show). Cyborg Octopus is also more aggressive and heavier than both those bands (unless you wanna go back to BTBAM’s first couple albums).

Also, BTBAM and even Dream Theater, as influences isn’t a bad thing. I admit that those bands are very talented, and their style is in the realm of things I like, even if the bands themselves aren’t my faves.
