Mad Skillz
This weeks metallic mix is brought to you by bands who all have exemplary skills, Aside from the instruments they are paying, that is about all they have in common because their styles are drastically different…which is how we like to roll around here.
Reviews:
Archspire – Relentless Mutation (Season of Mist)
Caligula’s Horse – In Contact (Inside Out)
Neck of the Woods – The Passenger (Basick)
First Impression:
Sinsaenum – “Ashes” from Ashes EP out November 10th from earMUSIC
Archspire – Relentless Mutation
Neck Of The Woods – The Passenger
My only minor quibble about the Archspire album is that the vocals can sometimes sound a little too much like Nathan Explosion from Dethklok/Metalocalypse.
I bought the Caligula’s Horse album but I agree that it’s going to be a commitment if I’m serious about giving it it’s due.
As for the October release schedule, while I do see a few albums I’m anticipating, I don’t see 2 or 3 a week that you are referring to. Ne Obliviscaris is the big one for me. I can’t say I’m highly anticipating any of the other October releases but that’s a good thing because I still have a lot of September releases to still listen to.
We have a fair amount of releases (some big, some small) that we’re looking forward to in Oct. and Nov. including but not limited to:
Black Dahlia Murder
August Burns Red
Veil Of Maya
All Pigs Must Die
Cannibal Corpse
Converge
Toothgrinder
and more!
I didn’t know about a few of those releases you mentioned (ABR, Toothgrinder, Veil of Maya). While I can certainly see that you would (and should) review albums from those bands, none of them are exactly my favorite bands. I didn’t much care for the last BDM album, and seeing Converge live the other night opening for Gojira did nothing to convince me that I need to buy their new album. All that’s fine with me because I feel like Archspire and Caligula’s Horse still have tons of spins left in them for me.
And I forgot to mention/ask: no review of the Mastodon EP? I can understand why you skipped the recently released Epica EP, but not Mastodon.
We didn’t skip it. Stay tuned…
