Episode 314: Mastodon, Cradle of Filth, Great American Ghost, Vices to Veils 2017 Album Reviews + Gojira, Torche, Code Orange Live Review

Darkness in Many Forms

Atmospheric and brooding.  Gothic and creepy. Venomous and aggressive. These are just some of the ways we get to hear the dark this week.  Generally speaking, they are all enjoyable, it just comes down to what you prefer.  If you’re not sure, just stick through he show and try them all!

  1. While I can’t really disagree with anything you guys said about Cold Dark Place by Mastodon, I do find myself wanting to keep listening to it. The four songs aren’t particularly impressive, but each time I listen to it, I want to listen to it again and I’m still going back to it after it being out for two and a half weeks already.

Gojira has it down to a science by now because they did all that same stuff you mentioned when I saw them 2 weeks ago at Brooklyn Steel. But they were just as good as ever. I did find it odd that I got Converge as an opener while you got Code Orange and Torche only 2 weeks later.

    1. Yeah, this was the third time I’ve seen them and other than swapping in some newer songs from the current release, the show is pretty much the same – drum solo, swap drums and vox for a song, close with Vacuity. It’s the same, but it is very satisfying every time.
