Repeat Offenders

As much as we love finding new artists, we also love following ones we’ve found already. Well, this week is chock full of those bands, all but one of which we have reviewed multiple times before.  We haven’t loved all the previous output either, so get listening to see if we think these are the latest and greatest.

  1. I’m mildly surprised that you guys both loved Urn by Ne Obliviscaris. Urn is certainly a good album, but my initial impression is that it isn’t better than their last album, Citadel. Knowing that you guys were disappointed by Citadel, I figured you might be even more disappointed by Urn. I realize you spoke to that point and addressed it. I think Urn is lacking any big “moments” or parts that just hit me in such a way to make me realize that this is great music, such as in the 3 note descending pattern of the song “And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope” on Portal of I, or multiple parts on “Devour Me, Colossus – Part I” on Citadel. While Urn may be consistent, it lacks a killer moment or part that gets me pumped up. That may change over repeated listens, as I fully intend to keep listening to Urn over the next few weeks in advance of seeing their show in NYC with Allegaeon.
