Abrasive (əˈbrāsiv)
Big hooks and pleasant melodies are all well and good, but sometimes you just want the aural equivalent of sandpaper. You need something visceral, pissed off, scathing…you need something like three quarters of this week’s reviews.
Reviews:
Converge – The Dusk in Us (Deathwish/Epitaph)
God Mother – Vilselded (Party Smasher)
Complete Failure – Crossburner (Season of Mist)
Embrace the Dawn – The Effigist

Brian: That’s funny because that album came across our desks (so to speak) and it may end up in a future episode. I think the vocals are going to be a barrier to entry for Nick, but we’ll see.
I have a bandcamp pick: Ashvattha by The Last Of Lucy. It’s technical progressive death metal. I don’t know if you guys will enjoy the quieter parts or the saxophone parts, but it’s right up my alley. It’s not out yet (currently streaming online), but I’ll be buying it on Friday when it’s released.
Yup! We talked about The Last Of Lucy a week or two ago and opted to let it sit for the immediate time being. That said, releases start to get sparse around now and I, for one, enjoy me some sax. …the vocals are definitely a turn off though.
