  1. Live review: Orphaned Land at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. My understanding is that Orphaned Land formed as a band about 20 years ago. So I realize I am 20 years late to the party when I say that this year Orphaned Land have become one of my favorite bands. I had not listened to them before the January 2018 release of their album Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs. I enjoyed that album so much that I had to go back and listen to their older stuff. And I love that as well. On Saturday night, Orphaned Land lived up to all my high hopes and expectations in their live show. The new stuff sounds great live and the old stuff sounds great live. During the show it occurred to me that often the crowd makes or breaks a performance: if a crowd isn’t into it then no matter how well the musicians perform the concert experience just won’t be the same. But the crowd though relatively small brought tons of energy and appreciation of the music to make Saturday night one of the better experiences I’ve had at a show in recent memory.
