It’s that time of the year again! That’s right, we have all of little lists that aren’t our favorite albums of the year! Also keeping with tradition, Mr. Mike Clancey joins us to discuss our favorite artwork of the year.
We Don’t Care
The title here is slightly hyperbolic, but not by much. This week’s review choices struggled a bit to keep our attention. Some were better than others, and we certainly had bunch to talk about, so I guess it was all fine in the end.
Abbath – Outstrider (Season of Mist)
Wait – We Are In Transit (The Artisan Era)
All Hell – The Witch’s Grail (Prosthetic)
We told you the year starts of slow, didn’t we? So, we have some more goodies from 2015, and this time we have a bunch of finds from scouring Bandcamp! We also have that big, colorful release that ended up on just about everybody’s year end list despite the fact those lists came out before the album did.
Oh, and I almost forgot!! We have a guest host!! No, it’s not Kyle. This one is less experienced in some of the more extreme forms of Metal and Hardcore, so we take a few minutes to teach him a thing or two. Pay attention because maybe you’ll learn something too. (Conversely, you may think we’re wrong and have to teach us something. That’s what the comment section is for.)
Baroness – Purple (Abrazan Hymns)
Dead in the Manger – Cessation (20 Buck Spin)
Glitterbomb – Hive Mind
Venomspitter – Venomspitter
This week marks the return of First Impressions! I know you’re excited…stop trying to hide it. While we may have dropped an album review to fit in the previews, we compensate by playing SEVEN songs this episode! So, it all balances out in the end.
Amorphis – Under the Red Cloud (Nuclear Blast)
Ramming Speed – No Epitaphs (Prosthetic)
Axis – Show Us Your Greed (Good Fight)
Skyharbor – “Out of Time”, new single out now
Parkway Drive – “Crushed” from Ire out 9/25 from Epitaph
40 Below Summer – “Mangina” from Transmission Infrared out independently on 10/6
Trivium – “Until the World Goes Cold” from Silence in the Snow out 10/2 from Roadrunner
Horrendous – “Sum of All Failures” from Anareta out 10/27 from Dark Descent
Baroness – “Chlorine & Wine” from Purple out 12/18 from Relapse
As anybody who has listened to this show a few times knows, I HATE doing these damn lists. You and I both know the main reason is because I am extremely indecisive. However, I also detest them because no matter how long I make the list (Kyle gets angry when I do more than 10) I still feel like I am slighting albums that don’t deserve it. Then out of the albums I do pick, I have to split hairs over which ones I like more than others only to come up with a list I am not even sure I 100% agree with! In the end, I have to get something together and just say, “Screw it. It’s close enough.”
