Feel the Power

When something is described as “Extreme Metal”, you probably think of grinding, brutal, violent Metal.  If that is one extreme, though, that means there is another.  That other is likely some form of Power Metal – epic, symphonic, and fantasy-driven. We don’t quite go to the far end of this extreme, but we wander down that path to bring you this week’s album reviews.

As promised, this week’s show is about our supplemental lists.  A prelude, if you will, to the top albums of the year.  We trimmed the fat this year, so we only have six categories (yeah, there was more), including Best EP, Most Disappointing, and Best Art.  As in years past, the latter is done with a guest appearance from our good friend and kinda-in-house artist Mike Clancey.  Feel free to share your picks – or argue with ours – in the comments!

(Just a reminder: For those of you doing your last minute Christmas shopping on Amazon – which we know some of you are doing – please go there through one of the album links on the side.  That simple click-through will help keep this podcast up and running.  Thanks!)

Last week, we stepped up our game a bit, keeping things on task and, well, for lack of a better word, “intelligent.”  This week, we try to continue in a similar vein. In addition to reviewing some more of Metal Month’s new releases, we also see the  return of the “Sh!t We Missed” segment, where we take a look at a few releases that, for one reason or another, we just didn’t get to when they came out.  Actually, it’s during that segment when Brian takes a shot one of his fellow hosts’ mothers and brings the classiness down a notch or two…right about to your mom’s level.
