It’s Sunday morning. I’m getting over a hangover. I have been sitting here for 10 minutes and cannot think of anything remotely witty or clever to write. So, here are some notes on this episode:
– Kyle is still MIA
– Brian and Nick review four new albums for you
– The dynamic duo also discuss some new singles from upcoming releases
– There is still no Clutch review due to Kyle not being present (see above)
– We did not review the new Dillinger Escape Plan album because we don’t have it yet (discussed a little more in the show)
– We do, however, have music to go along with the four album reviews
Reviews: Entrails – Raging Death (Metal Blade); Immolation – Kingdom of Conspiracy (Nuclear Blast); Shining – One One One (Prosthetic); Tristania – Darkest White (Napalm)
Part of the reason I don’t bother pre-ordering anything is the reason why you don’t have the new Dillinger yet. I’ll just wait to buy stuff when it comes out to make sure I’m getting exactly what I want, when I want it because it’s not like you get the stuff earlier by pre-ordering. But when you do get the new Dillinger, beware that the title track on One Of Us is the Killer is ear worm material. I can’t get it out of my head.
I was a little surprised to hear the so-so review of Immolation from Brian. That album is getting some decent reviews. But since I’ve listened to it a couple of times now, you guys are right that it doesn’t seem like anything special. To me it sometimes seems like some people just want to praise a band for being around a long time and sticking to what they do throughout their entire career. I think some of you guys may disagree, but I felt that way with Torture by Cannibal Corpse last year. To me, Torture wasn’t anything different than they had been doing for how many years and seemed like more of the same old same old. Immolation might fall in the same category.
“I really wish Kyle was here for this one (August Burns Red).” Drink! Another addition to the drinking game should be every time you say you won’t be reviewing Clutch each week.
Nick likes an album from a female fronted symphonic band??? Now the only thing is that I have to wait another 2 weeks just to buy the album. But that song you played from Tristania didn’t seem like anything special actually.
Sad that we have to add a rule to the drinking game the specifically applies to Kyle not being around, isn’t it? …..but that’s a good idea. Supposedly he’s going to be around more shortly…..we’ll see!
The Tristania album is just… good. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t familiar with them beforehand, maybe it’s because I was expecting something worse, maybe it’s because the songs are just catchy and well produced. Most likely – it’s a combo of all those. Either way, it’s a solid album and well worth a spin!
I hear ya on pre-orders. I usually don’t do it unless I like the t-shirts they come with. I’m a sucker for black shirts.
How did the Max cameo not make the list?
